Single-payer refers to the payment mechanism, in this case, the government. Like Canada, doctors and hospitals would remain private and the government would pay the bills. Single-payer has also been referred to as "medicare for all" i.e. no co-pays, no-deductibles and insurance companies out of the mix, all the while preserving private enterprise. Sounds good to me! Certainly an improvement. But why not a public option as well? Don't you think it's strange how attached people are to keeping everything 'private?' Do we really have this allegiance to corporations? Let there be more options. I think that I'd prefer the government to be able to provide another imperfect, but important service than continue to allow the corporate takeover that has existed for too long. Single-payer sounds nice. Certainly an improvement. But why not a public option as well?
